Renting a bike is easy in most Southeast Asian countries. You can find places on the streets, and even the youth hostels will rent. In some countries do not you ask a driver’s license, but in others, like Malaysia, may be required.
The first step is to learn to ride a motorcycle. Small bikes rent for tourists in general are easy to use, especially automatics. By contrast, the manuals may require some preparation.
Then we learn the local driving rules that exist, but we seem not. In Thailand they drive on the left so pay attention! Vietnam has a reputation for being an unsafe destination for riding a motorcycle (which does not mean that you can not do it, but you must be even more careful.)
If you wish to make longer trips on a motorcycle, do not forget to carry maps, water and a hat. A good idea may be to buy a motorcycle and sell it when you have finished your course (paragraph shall walk at least 3 weeks).
