Denmark is home to the largest airport in Scandinavia, Copenhagen Airport, one of the oldest international airports in Europe. It is located at Kastrup, 8 km from central Copenhagen and 24 km west of Malmö city centre, and is connected by rail train to the Copenhagen Central Station. From there rail service can continue on to the major cities throughout Denmark, plus Malmö and other towns in Sweden.
In 2010, Copenhagen Airport had 21.5 million passengers pass through the facility, making it the busiest airport in the Nordic countries, and unlike those other airports, a considerable share, over 90%, of the airport’s passengers are international travelers. The domestic part of the total annual passengers is lower than 10%.
Copenhagen Airport has recently opened a new terminal intended to be used by low-cost airlines like Easy Jet. Terminal 1 is used for all domestic flights while Terminals 2 and 3 are only for international flights. There are over 70 individual airlines that have flights to Denmark in and out of Copenhagen Airport representing almost every country in the free world.
the American president in office, on four occasions, has landed at Copenhagen Airport. Bill Clinton and George W Bush, once each, and Barack Obama twice.
For the western portion of Denmark, the major airport is Billund. Both the cities of Aarhus and Aalborg have smaller airports with regular commuter style flights to Denmark, Copenhagen Airport.
