The basin city (Cuenca) commemorates 15th anniversary of its declaration as a world heritage city. It was on December 6, 1996, when the UNESCO World Heritage Committee fell the historic fortified city of Cuenca, confirming “the exceptional and universal value of a cultural site that must be protected for the benefit of mankind”. On the occasion of the celebration of the fifteen anniversary of basin as a world heritage city, there are provided a program of activities to ensure that children and adults enjoy the heritage of the city in a very special way, until Friday, December 9.
The Cathedral of Cuenca, hosted the exhibition commemorating the fourth anniversary of the treasure of Sebastián de Covarrubias. The Church of St. Andrew, recently recovered after a complex rehabilitation, will be the stage for puppet and magic shows or concert string of “Enchanted city” as a whole. In addition, the program has guided the hidden basin and the crypt of the Church of San Andrés, amenizadas by the Group of dulzaineros “Tiruraina”. The final snap of the festivities take placed on Friday, 9 December, with a concert of organ in the Cathedral, in charge of organist Pablo Márquez.
In these fifteen years, the city has grown to insisting on retaining his personality. The improvement of infrastructure, especially with the arrival in basin of the high-speed train allows the city open and show fully. The new MADRID-CUENCA-VALENCIA line connects basin with Madrid in 51 minutes and with Valencia in 58 minutes. A fast and comfortable travel which saves considerable time to learn about a unique city that fifteen years ago picked up the greater recognition of the international community.
Certainly the city heritage label is a guarantee for visitors who choose basin as a tourist destination. It is a good opportunity for a break these days.
